Calm Forest Miniatures - My First Oil on Canvas Collection
This autumn I dared to step into a new medium - oils. I painted mostly with acrylics, fast-drying and playful. But this time I wanted to slow down, to let the colors breathe longer on canvas. Oils give me exactly that. I chose professional grade Cobra paints, a water-mixable line that keeps all the richness of traditional oils without the need for toxic solvents.
This new collection is a series of miniature forest paintings, created on unusual formats - round, oval, and small square canvases. I love how these shapes change the feeling of the work. A circle feels like a window into another world, while an oval has something vintage and timeless in its frame. Small canvases invite you to come closer, like whispers from the forest floor.
The palette is intentionally monochromatic, in deep greens and muted blues, with only tiny accents of brighter tones. My goal was to create art that rests the eyes instead of overwhelming them - the kind of painting you hang in a reading nook or above a desk to feel calm whenever you look up.
Working with oils was also an experiment in patience. Acrylics demand speed, oils invite slowness. Each layer needs time, and in that waiting I discovered a new rhythm.
Many of my ideas come from my favorite places here in Slovakia - the forests of Záhorie and the Malé Karpaty mountains. I go there often through pines, meadows, and quiet paths and always bring home a feeling of calm. The silence, the changing light, the mist between the trees become part of my work. Each miniature is a small piece of Slovak nature, a reminder of those forest walks and the peace they bring.
These forest miniatures are one-of-a-kind originals, small enough to fit into any corner of your home, yet carrying the same depth and atmosphere as larger landscapes. If you love the feeling of quiet pines, night skies, and misty trees, this collection might bring a piece of that silence into your space.
